Free-Motion Quilting - Navigating Negative Space

This is a hands-on class. You will work through a table runner comprised entirely of negative space, including borders. You will also learn some free motion quilting designs that lend themselves to filling negative space. Deciding how to fill negative space can be overwhelming. It exists throughout your quilt. In traditional quilt patterns, it can be small, repetitive blocks. In modern quilts, it can be very large areas of fabric. How you fill those spaces depends on your personal preference and the story you want to tell. I’m increasingly convinced there is no wrong choice, so show the world what you can create!

Instructor: | Cindy Jorgenson |
Instructor Bio: | Cindy Jorgenson has been sewing or quilting since her tween years. She had a frugal and enthusiastic mother who insisted a child who can sew doll clothes can sew her own clothes. Her relationship with quilting was transformed when her husband gifted her the sewing machine of her dreams in 2011. About four years later, she took the leap into free motion quilting and it quickly became her favorite part of the quilting process. Cindy aspires to take your breath away with her quilting and knows a growth mindset is necessary to making that happen. Two of her quilts will be displayed at the 2021 Northwest Quilting Expo, where she hopes to be challenged with new and diverse ideas and techniques. Cindy is a Certified Public Accountant who has worked for the Montana Legislative Audit Division for over 30 years. In addition to her love of work and quilting, she enjoys gardening and cooking Korean. Her husband and children support her quilting addiction, often contributing to her quilting process. The family dog, Edgar, is her constant quilting companion. |
